Overview: Car Detailing
Detailing in most of Canada runs on the seasons. By March the carpets are crusted white, the door sills are gritty and the lower panels have spent months under a film of salt and brine. Spring is when detailers' calendars fill up.
A detail is slower and deeper than a wash. The paint gets decontaminated and protected with wax or a sealant. Machine polishing to cut swirl marks and a ceramic coating are usually priced on top unless the package names them. Inside, carpets and mats get hot-water extraction, which lifts salt out instead of spreading it around.
Fall is the other busy stretch. Protection that goes on before the first snow makes winter washing easier. Many owners also book an oil-spray rust-proofing treatment around then, especially in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada, where it's a common habit. Some detailers do both, so ask which should come first on your car.
Our listings show what each detailer states on its own website: the packages it offers, its hours and whether it takes bookings online. The province and city lists below lead to detailers close to home.
Cost of car detailing in Canada
Choose the result you need: a clean cabin, an inside-and-out detail, or paint correction and protection. Package names alone do not describe the work. Standard cars in ordinary used condition. Large vehicles, severe salt, mould, odours or heavy contamination need a condition-based quote.

Frequently asked questions
Can a detailer get salt stains out of carpet?
Usually, if the stains haven't been left for years. Winter salt dries into white tide marks that come back every time the carpet gets damp, because the salt is still in the fibres. Hot-water extraction dissolves it and pulls it out rather than pushing it deeper. Afterwards, deep rubber mats with raised edges keep most of next winter's slush off the carpet.
What does paint correction actually remove?
Swirl marks, wash scratches, water spots and the dull haze on an older car. Polishing takes off a thin layer of clear coat so the surface is flat again. What it can't fix is stone chips, and a winter on sanded, gravelled highways leaves plenty. Those need touch-up paint, and a good detailer will point them out rather than polish around them and hope you won't look.
Is a ceramic coating worth paying for?
Mostly for what it does in winter. A coated finish sheds salt film and road grime more easily, so a quick rinse at a coin wash does more. It locks in whatever the paint looks like on the day, which means correction first is the part worth paying for. It isn't scratch proof, and it won't stop rust that starts under a stone chip, whatever the brochure implies.
Can a detailer get an old smell out?
Often, if they find the source. In Canada that source is often winter itself: snowmelt off boots soaks through the mats into the padding underneath and turns musty by spring. Smoke, spilled milk and pet accidents do the same. Ask whether they extract the carpet, lift it to dry the padding, and replace the cabin air filter, because a surface shampoo alone lets the smell come back.
Is an underbody wash worth it in winter?
Yes, and more than a shiny body is. Salt and brine pack into pinch welds, brake lines and suspension parts that a hand wash never reaches. A detailer or a wash bay with underbody spray can flush them out. Pick a mild day so water doesn't freeze in the door seals and locks. It won't undo rust that has already started, but it slows the next patch.
