Although every vehicle is different, every 8,000 kilometres or 6 months is a good benchmark for modern cars. Although some modern vehicles have extended intervals of up to 20,000 kilometres and 12 months, extended oil change intervals can lead to engine sludge buildup and wear which is particularly problematic with oil-controlled variable valve timing systems. An oil change is cheap preventative maintenance, we have seen too many engine problems that could have been prevented by more frequent oil change intervals.
