The famous BMW i8 is an exceptional sports car which was made differently than any BMW prior by using the thinnest lightest materials possible at the time of production. The carbon fiber tub and the first use of gorilla glass in the windshield was revolutionary. Certain areas went a bit too far.  For example the coolant pipes, beside the high voltage battery, tend to crack at the support bracket, causing a steady leak. Client was told it would be a very expensive repair, the initial quote was over $3200.00. To make matters worse the replacement pipe was back ordered for weeks from Germany. The client called us in desperation for a second opinion. My (usual) reaction was let see how we can solve this problem. The pipe can be removed relatively easily; an alloy tube is attached to either side of the high voltage battery pack. We promptly removed the pipe and called my certified aluminum welder if he could fix the cracked tube at the support bracket. Long behold we got the pipe welded and reinforced the next day. Then we leak tested by pressurized smoke, before installation. And two days and  $680.00 later this BMW i8 was back on the road with a reinforced support bracket for life. Call us for more.
