Why is it so important to change the oil? If you think the only function of oil is to lubricate the engine, make no mistake. The motor oil is essential for the proper operation of your vehicle. However, over time, the oil and oil filter begin to accumulate suspended particles, impurities and dirt , which jeopardize their efficiency. To ensure that everything goes smoothly, you should change the oil and oil filter regularly. These are the 5 main functions of engine oil : 1. Lubrication : One of the main functions of oil is to lubricate the engine parts and reduce friction between them. The protective oil film eliminates contact between metals and moving parts, which reduces energy consumption. 2. Cooling : The oil reduces the heat generated by friction between parts and cools the engine components. 3. Cleaning : the oil suspends impurities, dust, fuel residues and wear particles that will later be deposited in the filter. In this way, it keeps the engine clean and prevents the accumulation of dirt, wear or premature seizing of the segments, as well as the formation of deposits in the crankcase. 4. Anticorrosive : the oil protects the internal surfaces of the engine from corrosion caused by water and acids resulting from combustion. 5. Encourages tightness : the oil film contributes to the tightness of the pistons, to provide good compression and to conserve the engine's potential.
